Land with Excellent Spring Water

The land of Bayswater belonged to the Abbey of Westminster upon the completion of the Domesday Book. The area was initially named Banyard’s Watering after a man named Bainiardus, most likely a comrade of William the Conqueror.

Banyard’s Watering had an excellent reputation as a spring well, and once provided water to Banyard, his household and his cattle. After six centuries, the watering place was renamed Bayswater.
